Most men lead from their head and call it strength.
They strategize, perform, provide, and push forward — all while the heart, the actual center of who they are, goes unattended for years at a time. And then one day, often in the middle of a crisis they didn’t see coming, they discover that a man cannot lead well from a heart he has never taken the time to know.
I recently joined Dr. Rani Thanacoody on her podcast, Amazing You, for a conversation centered on a simple but transformative truth: when a man connects with his heart first, everything changes.
WHY THE HEART COMES FIRST
Men are conditioned to lead with output. Get it done. Solve the problem. Push through. There is a place for that kind of drive, but when it becomes the entire operating system of a man’s life, something essential gets neglected.
The heart is where a man’s identity actually lives. It is where wounds get buried, where shame takes root, and where the deepest questions about purpose and worth either get faced honestly or pushed further into the dark.
A man who never connects with his own heart will struggle to truly connect with anyone else—his wife, his children, his brothers in faith. He can be present in the room and still be unreachable. Dr. Rani and I talked about what it takes to reverse that pattern and why the work has to start on the inside before it can ever show up authentically on the outside.
ISOLATION, HUMILITY, AND THE POWER OF ASKING FOR HELP
This conversation also gave me the chance to talk about something I write about extensively—the power of asking for help, a theme central to my book True Man True Ways and to my contributing chapter in Cracking the Rich Code, Book 11 (https://www.amazon.com)
Too many men reject growth because they reject the one thing that makes this growth possible: humility. Asking for help is not admitting defeat. It is a man choosing brotherhood over isolation and faith over self-reliance. That choice — small as it may seem — is often the exact moment everything begins to shift.
THE INVITATION
If you have been leading from your head while your heart quietly goes unattended, this conversation is worth your time. Connecting with your heart is not a weakness. It is where real, lasting change actually begins.
